  • How to enter cellphone test mode to check received signal strength

When configuring/orienting cellular band antennas for optimal direction to maximize received signal strength it's important to have a good received signal meter. The bars are not a good indicator for RSSI (received singla strength). A better approach is to put the phone in test mode and read out the received signal in dB. Here's a handy link on how to enter test mode for various phones: http://www.wilsonelectronics.com//Fi...eTestModes.pdf

Checking Received Power Level for Aircards

The connection utility already provides the received signal strength in dBm. For sprint you can get this by mousing over the connection manager RSSI indicator (it tells you whether you are on an EVDO network or 1xRTT network and what the received signal strength) or you can enter the connection manager menu settings and find this info here. Be sure to refresh the display after orienting the antenna to where you think the antennas are .... also you can use a-priori knowledge of Sprint tower locations to help you .. .this is available here: http://www4.sprint.com/pcsbusiness/c...towermaps.html
