How do I find out if my phone is getting more signal with the amplifier?

Just to clarify as this comes up very often: the resulting received signal strength recorded in the data card is:
1) Not the sum of the gains of the system - this is due to losses and automatic gain control e.g. if your Rx signal before using the amplifier antenna combo is -100dBm and you add a 37dB amplifier with a 5dBi magnet mount antenna the resulting signal will NOT be -58dBm.
2) Might not neccessarily be different after adding the amplifier antenna system:
- if the Received signal is too low to start with it might be below the receiver sensitivity limits of the amplifier anyway
- if the Received signal is too strong to start with it may not be further amplified as it would saturate the receiver front end of the EVDO radio.
If in doubt on the results you are getting drop us a line. This stuff can get quick tricky due to interactions of multiple non-linear variablesKF7RCQ
