Having problems trying to tunnel VPN traffic through a HSDPA connection (works fine through EVDO). Any test results on this or any idea if this is a bug?

Answer to tunneling VPN Traffic.

We need to find out from the PL if they have tested this device with HSDPA. We have never tested that in the US. If you can provide us the test results we will look into them and try to find a solution.

HSDPA VPN Tunneling

Are you trying to access a remote private network using VPN when connected to the ZTE router or are you trying to setup the network that the ZTE is part of for VPN so that a remote client can access it? Hope the difference is clear.

If trying to access a remote network using VPN and HSDPA for WAN then do you know that this works at all independent of the ZTE e.g connect the aircard to a laptop and try to access the network? If this works then don't see why this should be different from any other backhaul method e.g EV-DO or Ethernet.

Hope you realize that the latter (trying to setup a remote access server) using HSDPA violates most carriers data agreements

HSDPA Support on the ZTE BAVO H110 Mobile Router

There might be some real issues with HSDPA on this router. ZTE Apps Engineers looking into this and I will report back when I learn more. For now I would not recommend getting this if primarily need it for HSDPA. The TopGlobal MB8000/MB6000 routers are still our 1st choice for HSDPA and we have a great deals on these here: http://www.rfwel.com/shop/home.php?cat=1

How is VPN passthrough setup with an internal server on this router? I'm using it with EVDO. Is it possible to forward just GRE protocal 47 (pptp) and IP protocol 50 (IPSec) without forwarding every external inquiry by setting up a DMZ? These are not UDP or TCP ports but I don't see any other options for configuration besides a DMZ. Thanks.

VPN on the ZTE H110

Hey John, here is the response I got back from ZTE engineers - looks like this router is quite different from the demo we put under lab trials.

How is VPN passthrough setup with an internal server on the ZTE when using it with EVDO?
First is to set up WWAN connection in the ?Setup? manual. Then under ?Security?, click ?New IPSec Connection? button on the left side, configure VPN IPSec based on your requirement. When select manual on ?Key Exchange Method? option, you can see the ESP or AH on ?IPSec protocol? option. Then you can select ESP or AH.

Is it possible to forward just GRE protocal 47 (pptp) and IP protocol 50 (IPSec) without forwarding every external inquiry by setting up a DMZ?
ESP protocol is protocol 50 (IPSec), AH is protocol 51 (IPSec). There is no problem with protocol 50. For GRE 47 (pptp), I did not see any configuration on the configuration manual, but you can find the solution for GRE 47. You can put VPN Gateway for GRE 47 on the server which is connected with LAN side of HGW, use ?Port Trigger? configuration set up to let client on internet side to access server on LAN side of HGW. It has UDP & TCP option. There are ?Port Trigger? and ?Port Forwarding? feature available for ZTE HGW. Microsoft has products to support GRE 47. Please check with Microsoft for implementation.
