#1This will allow Alltel customers to access Boingo's WiFi hotspots in the U.S and Internationally. EV-DO customers can bundle Wi-Fi service for an added $9.99 a month to its $59.99 Wireless Internet Plan. For customers on less expensive voice and data plans, the Wi-Fi option can be added for $22 a month. Alltel is also offering pre-paid Wi-Fi cards for $19.99 per week or $9.99 per day.
IMHO not sure how important this will be since current EVDO devices don't contain WiFi radios - In fact the only data card modem that we carry that has both 2.5/3G data and Wifi is the Sony Ericsson GC89 which has GPRS/EDGE as well as 802.11b/g. So customers will have to toggle between WiFi modems (adapters or integrated in their laptops and EVDO modems). Also not sure how often one would be unable to connect with Alltels EVDO network and find a Boingo partner network (recall they have data roaming agreements w/ VZW which already has a large EVDO nationwide footprint).
This might have been in response to its rivals coming out with faster (larger footprint) data networks and Alltel being slow in its EVDO RevA rollout.
