I have a question- will the wireless thermostat/ receiver work in my house- i have an oil heating system in my house. am asking this because i read it works with "gas / electric or heat pump systems"...

Yes it will work with oil systems it just depends on how the existing thermostat is hooked up. So basically if the thermostat in your oil system is hooked up like a standard thermostat then it will work since all the receiver does is act as a relay to turn the system on and off depending on some inputs from the thermostat.
