The bundle of the Kyocera KR1 router and the Sprint U720 aircard available here: http://www.rfwel.com/shop/?target=pr...8&cat=1&page=1 might have 2 potential issues:
1) Since there's no firmware upgrade specifically for the U720 at this time (12/20/06) you might not get maximum speed; some people are reporting a datarate hit in the 20's%. This is the similar situation as happened with the S720 before the firmware upgrade. This is my opinion is not a significant penalty given the benefits of having the KR1 router accept a USB EVDO modem directly for its WAN backhaul. Plus the firmware will come!
2) The U720 ships with a Y-Cable to allow it to be simultaneously plugged to 2 USB adapters so that it can draw more power from the USB ports when the received signal strength is low – the KR1 router only has 1 USB port. The solution of course is to slap on a high gain antenna on the U720 so that the AGC (Automatic Gain Control) mechanism of the U720 is not operating in the high power regime.
