Well there is news that Alltel is launching a new USB data card. It looks like Altell may finally be trying to catch up to the Rev A speeds, it might be a little late at this point. I do have to admit when testing the Alltel cards next to some Sprint cards not too long ago I was very impressed with the speeds. Even though it wasn't Rev A speeds, they were very good speeds for an EVDO Rev0 network. I was "shocked". If alltel gets their Rev A market up and running I expect some pretty fast speeds out of them. I know that was a little of topic but I had to put my two sense in about Alltel's data speeds.
This new card coming out is called the UM150. It is a EvDO Rev A USB data card. Here are some of the features that it claims to offer:
Premier Features:
• 1x/EVDO Rev 0 and Rev A ready
• USB (Type A) – fits most standard USB ports on Windows and Mac based computers
• microSD™ memory card reader
• Extendable Antenna
• External Antenna and GPS connections
• Windows® XP, Vista(32), and Mac OSX compatible
• NDIS Supported
I also hear that there is going to be a pretty good rebate on it, so I am excited to see the starting price of it.
Check back to see some of the tests that I will run on the card!!!
