Cellular Signal Guide

Cellular end-user devices on a cellular network depend on signal parameters for them to communicate effectively with the cellular towers.
Signals from these distribution points or towers face interferences on the propagation paths such as noise, signal reflection, blockage, and absorption. These are known as radio propagation effects. These interferences affect signal quality at end-user devices as they result in losses.

The table below shows recommended RSRP and RSRQ values for LTE signals.
RF Conditions RSRP RSRQ
Excellent > -80 dBm > -9dB
Good -80dBm to -90 dBm -9 to -15dB
Fair -90dBm to -100dBm -15 to -20dB
Cell Edge < -100dBm < -20dB
With RSRP signals of -100dBm at the UE (User equipment), it may be possible to improve the signal with external antennas that have a higher gain than internal antennas of devices.

See examples of antenna kits available. A directional antenna may be appropriate for signal improvement when one knows the direction of a cell tower/distribution point.

Poor signals may need 4G LTE/ 5G NR boosters to try improving the signals.
